BAC offers annually recurring programs and collaborations with organizations on and off-campus to promote events of interest to black alumni and our community of supporters.

BAC Homecoming - October 

The celebration brings together alumni from across schools, disciplines and regions during Columbia’s Homecoming weekend. Held off-campus at a New York City area nightspot, the party is co-sponsored by CAA and has become the largest annual gathering of Columbia University’s black alumni.

Heritage Award and Scholarship Reception - February

Each Black Heritage Month BAC honors alumni and others who have made significant contributions to the black community on campus and beyond. This CAA co-sponsored reception and program includes alumni, friends, administrators, faculty, student leaders and BAC undergraduate scholars.

BAC Scholarship Fund - Annual Campaign 

BAC annual events provide awareness, friend and fund raising opportunities for the BAC Scholarship Fund campaign to provide five or more $10,000 undergraduate scholarships at the College or SEAS each year. To learn more: BAC Scholarship Fund.

The Jam - Biennial

The “Jam” refers to the reunions of Black and Latino alumni of Barnard College and Columbia University from the mid 1960s through 1970s. These foundational class alumni have partnered with BAC in recent years for more inclusive, all-class participation, culminating in the comprehensive and well-attended Jam 2016. A Jam planning committee is preparing now for Jam 2018. Jam 2018 coincides with the 50^th anniversary of the campus protests of 1968 and there will be opportunities to reflect on those events. 

Alumni of Color Reception - June

The late afternoon on-campus reception is a new tradition during Alumni Reunion Weekend in June. Approaching its second year, the event is a collaboration of BAC, Asian Columbia Alumni Association (ACAA), Latin American Alumni of Columbia University (LAACU), and the offices of Alumni Affairs and Development at the undergraduate schools.

Collaborations

BAC collaborates with several on and off-campus organizations, University departments, black student groups, and other Ivy Plus and HBCU alumni associations.

We regularly offer events in collaboration with Columbia Alumni Association, Shared Interest Groups of CAA,  Catalyst Network Foundation (CNF), a NYC/DC nonprofit, CAA Arts Access, Columbia's Institute for Research in African American Studies (IRAAS), The Center for Justice (CJ) at Columbia' School of Social Work, and Columbia's Office of Multicultural Affairs (OMA) in support of Black Graduation.
